Just finished another run through Memory of Chaos and I've gotta say, this endgame mode still hits different in 2025! For those who don't know, Memory of Chaos is basically HSR's ultimate challenge where you need to eliminate waves of enemies within a set number of turns. It's all about strategy and team building, and with the current "Out of Home" phase running until May 12th, I wanted to share my approach to conquering each stage!
Unlike other endgame modes like Pure Fiction or Apocalyptic Shadow, Memory of Chaos is particularly brutal because you only get ONE stage buff to work with - no team buffs! This means your team composition and character builds need to be on point. Plus, there are no trial characters to bail you out, so you're fully relying on your own roster.
Memory Turbulence: The Current Phase Mechanic
The current phase, "Out of Home," has been active since March 31st, and it's definitely challenging! The Memory Turbulence buff is the only stage buff you'll get, so you need to make the most of it.
I've noticed that clearing stages with fewer cycles (turns) significantly increases your rewards, so speed is key. Each battle stage has a maximum of 30 cycles - the fewer you use, the more goodies you unlock!
My Go-To Teams for Stage 1
For the first half of Stage 1, I've been absolutely dominating with my Acheron team. She's just a monster for AoE damage, which is perfect since the Furiae Warrior enemies love to summon Praetor minions.
My premium setup looks like:
-
Acheron (Main DPS)
-
Pela (Support)
-
Jiaoqui (Support)
-
Fu Xuan (Sustain)
For the second half, I've been crushing it with:
-
Boothill (Main DPS)
-
Tingyun • Fugue (Support)
-
Ruan Mei (Support)
-
Lingsha (Sustain)
If you're more F2P focused, don't worry! I've had success with budget teams too:
First Half Budget Team:
-
Seele (Main DPS)
-
Bronya (Support)
-
Trailblazer (Remembrance) (Support)
-
Fu Xuan (Sustain)
Second Half Budget Team:
-
Dr. Ratio (Main DPS)
-
March 7th (Hunt) (Sub DPS)
-
Ruan Mei (Support)
-
Gallagher (Sustain)
Conquering Higher Stages
By Stage 5, things get serious! The enemy weaknesses shift, and you need to adapt. I've found Wind and Imaginary teams work best for the first half.
For Stage 5 first half, my Blade team has been clutch:
-
Blade (Main DPS)
-
Bronya (Support)
-
Robin (Support)
-
Luocha (Sustain)
Blade just tears through everything with his HP Drain mechanic, and when paired with Bronya's buffs? Chef's kiss - absolutely devastating!
For the second half, I've been vibing with my Physical team:
-
Argenti (Main DPS)
-
Tribbie (Support DPS)
-
Sunday (Support)
-
Huohuo (Sustain)
Tribbie has been such a game-changer since her release. She supplies that sweet RES PEN buff while also dealing decent damage herself. Honestly, she's the MVP in so many of my teams now.
The Ultimate Challenge: Stage 12
By the time you reach Stage 12, you're facing the toughest enemies in the game. For the first half, I've been relying on:
-
Acheron (Main DPS)
-
Sparkle (Support)
-
Jiaoqui (Support)
-
Aventurine (Shielder)
The Furiae Praetor and The Flame Reaver in this stage are no joke - they summon minions like crazy, so AoE damage is crucial.
For the second half, my Super Break team has been unstoppable:
-
Boothill (Main DPS)
-
Tingyun • Fugue (Support)
-
Ruan Mei (Support)
-
Lingsha (Sustain)
Lingsha's ability to remove debuffs is particularly important here because enemies like Moonlit Pegasus and Kafka will throw all sorts of nasty statuses at you.
Rewards Worth Fighting For
Completing all 12 stages of Memory of Chaos yields a ton of rewards including Stellar Jades, Traveler's Guides, Refine Aethers, Lucent Afterglows, and Credits. Plus, if you've subscribed to the Version 3.2 Battle Pass, you'll earn 1,400 Nameless EXP for clearing this endgame mode.
My Personal Tips
-
Team Synergy > Individual Power: I've found that a well-synergized 4-star team often outperforms a collection of powerful 5-stars that don't work well together.
-
Know Your Enemy Weaknesses: Each stage has specific enemy elemental weaknesses. Targeting these can make or break your run.
-
AoE Damage is King: So many enemies in Memory of Chaos summon minions. Having strong AoE damage dealers helps clear these efficiently.
-
Don't Forget Cleansing: Many elite enemies apply debuffs that can cripple your team. Characters like Gallagher, Huohuo, and Lingsha who can remove these are invaluable.
-
Practice Rotation Management: With the 30-cycle limit, every turn counts. I sometimes jot down my optimal rotation order before starting difficult stages.
Sometimes I still mess up and waste precious turns... but that's just part of the journey, right? 😅
What about you guys? Which characters have been carrying your Memory of Chaos runs this phase? I'm curious if anyone's found success with teams I haven't tried yet!
